How To Get Rid of Lice
Do you have children who go to
school? Are you worried when they scratch their head? Do not worry? All
parents have the same problem especially when their child is of the age
group between 3-15 years and more so if it is a girl with long tresses.
Everybody is terrified about lice.
Lice
have been known to exist from time immemorial but they are a huge cause
of headache for parents. They are not dangerous and they do not cause
any disease, but the sad part is that they are contagious and once they
get into the scalp they are very difficult to get rid off. They can
cause itchiness and may lead to skin infection or scalp irritation. lice
are tiny parasites which do not posses wings and they live and thrive on
the human hair. These parasites feed on human blood and cannot live for
more than 24 hours outside the host. They cannot fly but they can spread
through used combs or even clothes. School children are the most
susceptible to lice.

You can easily get rid of adult lice but it is a very tedious process to
get rid of nits (the eggs) and this causes all the problems. You have to
get rid of the entire nits to solve your lice problem because these nits
hatch to form lice and until and unless you get rid of the nits your
lice problem will continue.
The second step is to get a good comb, get you a good quality comb to
get rid of the nits. You can buy a lice treatment from a drug store and
follow all the instructions about the application process and the
duration for which it must be left on and how to clean the hair.
Once the hair is cleaned, change into clean clothes and using the
special comb, remove the dead and live nits from the hair. If you still
feel that all the lice and the nits have not disappeared, you can try
the lice treatment once again after consulting your physician.
A natural product that if found to be effective in treating lice is
fresh rosemary. You can place a around 3-4 sticks fresh rosemary on the
inside of your pillow because rosemary acts as a lice repellent and in a
weeks time you will notice that the lice disappear and the nits reduce
in number.
There
are a large number of medicated shampoos and lotions are available
today. These shampoos and lotions are tried and tested treatments for
the eradication of lice. But be careful because the lice too can become
resistant to your medicated shampoo and your headache (lice) could
reappear. If you are using some new products especially on young
children then it would be wise to consult your physician because some of
the products do contain insecticides which could be harmful.
Never scold your child if she has been infected with lice, as it is
quite common in schools as children sit close to each other and lice
tend to infect the scalp. Try and use a fine tooth comb every time you
shampoo your daughters hair as wet hair, immobilizes the lice and you
can comb the lice out. But the sad part is that lice are very difficult
to conquer.
You can wash all the clothing as well as bed linen used by the infected
person in hot water and vacuum clean your house too. Hair care products
like your combs and brushed should not be shared and should be soaked
and washed in medicated shampoo or hot water till the lice menace
disappears.
