Get rid of lice: the easy way

Lice are very common in children. It's not unusual to see children coming back from school with head lice and as the condition spreads really fast, you can expect your child and nearly everyone in the family to get it if they aren't careful! But as head lice are easy to get, they can be just as easy to get rid of! Almost everyone is familiar with the common methods of removing head lice and here are a few methods that you can combine to get rid of lice.

Lice combs- lice combs are a really popular but extremely painful method of dealing with lice. Lice combs or nit combs have extremely sharp and very tiny spaced teeth. The process of removing the lice eventually gets very painful for children. One easier method is to condition the person's hair with a transparent conditioner and then work the nit comb through the hair. The conditioner makes the hair shafts slippery for the comb as well as the lice that are stuck to the shaft.  They work on a mechanical principle of actually sieving out the lice and their eggs from the hair follicle. But the process is extremely hit-and-miss! You might get all the fully grown lice but a few eggs will escape and the entire process has to be repeated again and again. To be on the safer side, back up all your nit comb efforts with a lice shampoo.

Lice shampoo- also called as pediculicides are extremely effective in removing all lice. The shampoos work on lice and immature eggs too. Combine the lice comb and the shampoo regularly to alternate day treatments.

Manual methods- The process of removing lice by the nit comb may or may not but you can try to remove the eggs and lice manually too. Sift through the person's hair and you will notice transparent and translucent egg cases located maybe an inch above the scalp firmly attached to the hair follicle. Use a tweezer to pinch it off the hair follicle or simply snip off the hair strand. This same method is also great to find the smaller lice that are present just above the scalp on the hair strands.

Treatment packs- You can also use Listerine to kill all the existing lice and eggs on the hair strand. You can also use mayonnaise masks or vinegar masks to coat hair strands. The heavy coating of mayonnaise suffocates the lice and the embryos in the eggs and vinegar dissolves any eggs that are still attached to hair strands so it's a double effect to kill all cycles of the lice. Keep the mask on for an hour or more for best effects.

Preventive measures- lice are extremely easy to catch and as a preventive measure; just place sprigs of rosemary inside the pillowcase of every family member as lice hate the odor. The lice life cycle repeats every 7-10 days and so you have to ensure that all bedding and clothes are cleaned regularly with hot water and insecticides to kill off all latent eggs in the clothes. Another tip is to remember that lice eggs dissolve in vinegar. If you're child keeps getting Head lice, then its a good idea to start on using vinegar in your bath water everyday. It acts like a repellent and keeps dissolves any eggs that are already present in your hair. Keep all purses, handbags, scarves and hair bands soaked in vinegar to kill all the eggs that may be present too.

There are several methods to ensure that lice and eggs are killed but try to stick to one reliable method and repeat it every alternate day till you are lice free.
